How to Get That Nifty Laptop Without Going Broke!
So the Christmas holiday is coming up and what good wish list is sent to Santa without the words “new laptop“? Unfortunately for many of us, throwing down two grand for a high end laptop just isn’t feasible anymore. I’ll give you some advice to keep your relatives happy and your wallet full when searching for a new laptop.
The first thing you want to do is narrow down which brands are acceptable to be priced lower than others and still retain good quality, and which one’s are most likely going out in the trash within a year. The highest reliability ratings for laptops generally come from Apple, Dell, Asus, and Toshiba. At the lower end would be Acer, Gateway, and HP. A problem with Apple is that they run a different operating system than everyone else, so if you grew up on the Windows operating systems they probably aren’t for you. The best choice for Apple would be to look into their refurbished products which can be marked down as much as 35% off from the original.
For now though, we’ll head into Dell and Asus. Dell has a rather good customer service rating, and their newer laptops have received high ratings in reliability. If you configure one to your liking you can easily stay under $1,000. Asus has jumped up the charts with reliability and has always been a cheaper option. Toshiba, a lesser known laptop vendor, is also on par with Asus in being cheaper and yet still reliable. These can all be found at your online for a fairly cheap laptop deal
The next thing you can choose is what size that person or you really needs. If you’re going to be traveling with it, save some money and opt for a smaller laptop. The sizes usually are based on the screen, so anything below 15.4″ would be good. A super cheap option would be to look into the new net books. Net books are small laptops with a full-sized keyboard mainly used for online activities and writing documents. If that’s all you’re going to be doing you can happily stay under $500. Try the Dell and Asus net books for starters.
